WWF Central and Eastern Europe is responsible for leading and to a significant extent implementing WWF's efforts to preserve, restore and sustainably manage the natural values of the Danube Carpathian ecoregion, which we also call the Green Heart of Europe. With a team of over 200 highly specialised professionals, we are working across political borders through an ecoregional approach based on model projects, influencing policy, networking, capacity building, communication and crisis response.As part of WWF Central and Eastern Europe, WWF Ukraine is primarily engaged with forests, freshwater, wildlife, agriculture, climate as well as public policy, corporate engagement, marketing. To date, WWF Ukraine has built a solid record on conservation restoration and sustainable management of natural resources with main focus on forests, freshwater and wildlife.WWF Ukraine is seeking to recruit a Freshwater Programme Manager to join the Conservation team. The jobholder will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and achievement of WWF-Ukraine's and WWF-CEE's strategic goals and priorities in freshwater and sturgeon conservation, through effective team management, work planning, systematic fundraising, and ensuring the organisation's objectives are delivered with a high level of professional expertise.Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesFreshwater Programme management
  • Lead the Freshwater Programme, including sturgeon conservation, focusing on analyses of the current environment and context, gathering of necessary data and developing proposals for the strategic goals and priorities of the organization in the area of Freshwater and Sturgeon conservation and monitoring of delivery against them, including preparation of semi-annual reports and adaptive measures
  • Identifies and determines the capacity and resources necessary for accomplishing the strategic goals in the area of freshwater and sturgeon conservation, identifying funding gaps and fundraising opportunities and lead to fundraising initiatives of all types
  • Bears responsibility for the high professional level of conservation activities delivered in the field of Freshwater and Sturgeon conservation. Maintains, builds up and fosters professional expertise development - both own and that of the team experts
  • Identifies the relevant stakeholders which the organization should work with for the accomplishment of the set strategic goals, determines the collaboration format and maintains the ongoing working relationship
  • Support communication activities in the area of Freshwater and Sturgeon conservation
Process and team management
  • Build and lead a high performing freshwater team through coaching, mentoring, feedback provision, and facilitating agreement on clear roles and responsibilities
  • Actively build and maintain working relations with the other national Conservation Programme Managers, Policy and Government Department, Communication Department, Engagement and Resource Mobilisation and Finance & Administration
Project management
  • Ensure implementation of the project planning and management of assigned project, project work plan and compliance with timeframe and budget for WWF-Ukraine and WWF-CEE
  • Identify potential project partners, stakeholders and external experts and maintain regular contact and engagement
  • Prepare or support project reports and support control donor visits
